The cold and flu season are always met with a handful of myths and beliefs. Some of the more common beliefs are just not true. One of the most common myths is that going out in the cold, or being out in the cold with wet hair raises the chances of a person catching a cold. This is simply not the case. There is no way to sweat out a cold either. This can cause a fever to rise and make a person uncomfortable. There is some misconception about a flu vaccine actually causing the flu. A person may experience some mild symptoms, but not the actual flu.
The best ways to avoid cold and flu are simple and should be done daily. Proper hand washing is a must. It is important to thoroughly wash hands throughout the day and especially after touching shopping carts, public door handles, and any place else a lot of people come in contact with. If a person needs to cough, they should cough into the bend of their arm. Coughing into the hands spreads germs just as effectively as coughing into somebody’s face. A healthy diet full of raw fruits and vegetables is necessary for the body to keep up a good immune system. Staying hydrated can also hold off colds and flu viruses.
